Fall Leaves

Fall Leaves Storytime

all songs, fingerplays, and ideas are used for educational purposes only and not for profit.

Where possible, authors are noted.

Take crumpled up newspaper and fill a space with them, allow the kids to jump into the "fall leaves" one at a time. Have them help you pick them up and put back in garbage bags.

Songs:

Leaves are twirling (sung to the tune: Frere Jacques)

Leaves are twirling, leaves are twirling

all around, all around

They are falling softly Very very softly

To the ground, to the ground

(Next two falling leaf rhymes are courtesy of Eugene Public Library, Eugene, Oregon)

If both rhymes are being done at the same storytime the first one canb e done loudly and the second one very softly to teach opposites.

The leaves are falling

The leaves are falling (reach arms up to the sky and make your hands the leaves)

Down(during the next three words bring hands down to the floor)

Down

Down

to the ground (pound our rhythm on the floor - three sounds for three 1 syllable words)

(Repeat above phrase 2x)

Flying off the trees, (move arms to the right)

Dancing in the breeze (move arms to the left)

Down, Down, Down, (repeat movement as above)

To the ground.

(This is a good rhyme to do with a piece of streamer, ribbon stick, or scarf)

The little leaves are falling down (go slowly to the ground)

Red, orange, yellow, brown,

Swirling, swirling, (slowly turn in circles)

Round, and round,

Quietly without a sound.

Falling gently to the ground

Down and

Down and

Down and

Down.
