Gardening Storytime
Craft:
Plant a seed in a peat pot (have dirt pre-filled in individual pots) have children come up one at a time and put seeds in their pot to take home.
I usually have a small paper 'collar' for the peat pot that each child can color that I have pre-cut to fit the peat pots - we tape them on after they are colored and each child take home their own specially decorated peat pot with a seed inside waiting to grow. (I usually have little popsicle sticks sticking out of the dirt that say "water me" to remind the children to water their peat pot when they get it home.)
Suggested Books:
Jamberry by Bruce Degen
Scruffy Teddy Grows Flowers by Jill Harker
Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert
Flannelboard
Cut out flowers that match the colors from the book "Planting a Rainbow" by Lois Ehlert. Just having the same shapes & colors will help the children to match them to the story as you read it. Have each child pick a flower and "plant" it on your flannelboard as you read the story, stopping after each color to give the children time to put their flower on the board. I put up green felt stems on the board that the children can put their flower on top of.
