Fishing Storytime

Going Fishing Storytime

Activity:

Create paper fish cutouts with metal paperclips attached, Fill empty wading pool with paper fish. Give each child a wooden dowel with yarn and magnet attached. Let them catch a certain amount of fish to color and take home with them. I put felt ducks in with my fish(or paper sharks) and tell them when they catch a duck they have to put back everything they've already caught. This usually makes the game more challenging and lasts longer. Some kids would be happy just catching fish, they don't care about coloring or keeping them!

Craft:

Fishbowl with Fish coloring page http://www.first-school.ws/t/ap/bowl_5_fish_b.html

Songs:

Fishy Pokey

You put your left fin in, you put your left fin out,

you put your left fin in, and you shake it all about

You do the fishy pokey and you swim yourself about,

That's what it's all about!

Right fin, Back tail, Whole self, etc.

Books:

When the Wild Pirates Go Sailing by Kees Moerbeek (pop-up book)

Stanley Goes Fishing by Craig Frazier

One Fish, Two fish, red fish, blue fish by Dr. Seuss

Big Fish, Little Fish by Ed Heck (Boardbook)

Hooray for Fish! by Lucy Cousins

Snacks:

goldfish crackers go perfectly with this storytime!

Turn on a song like "down by the bay" and have the children shake musical instruments to the rhythm!
